Yogurt to Be Kidding: Small Actions Result in Big Impact

Posted on in Everyday Inspiration  ·   No Comments

I always knew yogurt was good for gut health—but today I discovered it’s also good for the heart… in a completely unexpected way. I didn’t step out today with the intention of doing something kind. I just needed groceries. But sometimes, small opportunities to make a difference appear without warning.

While at the self-checkout, I noticed a man around my age struggling to pay for the one item he had—a large tub of yogurt. He tried his phone multiple times, clearly frustrated, and eventually sighed and prepared to put it back.

Without really thinking, I said, “Here—just let me cover it with my groceries.”
He looked surprised. “No, I can’t let you do that,” he insisted.
I told him it was absolutely fine. “I was raised to help others and to not be a bystander in life.”

He offered to e-transfer me the cost. I declined because that would have diminished the genuine intention of what was in the moment. Then he said something that stayed with me: “There really are good people in the world. I’m going to go out and do something nice for someone too.”

Look—I’m not lighting cigars with $100 bills. It was just an $8 tub of yogurt. But the feeling that exchange gave me? Worth far more than that. As we parted, he thanked me again. I said it was no big deal. He paused and replied, “No. This was huge.” There were no cameras to record this, no names, just my small story and just a quiet moment of kindness. The photo here? That’s my own yogurt.

Maybe this is your reminder, like it was mine: we all have the capacity to do something small that makes a big difference. Whether it’s buying someone a coffee, leaving a kind note for a colleague, or helping someone find their way—those small acts matter. You may just make someone’s day. And it will likely make yours too. Be selfish, do something that makes you smile today and make someone’s day!
